Acupuncture is an ancient technique which was derived from china over 2000 years ago. It is still to this day successfully practiced all over the world.
Acupuncture can help with an array of conditions including pain, insomnia, IBS, Fertility, headaches, arthritis and anxiety to name a few.
Clinical trials on the efficacy of acupuncture are conducted regularly and are proving successful. This is allowing acupuncture to be recognised as an alternative option within standard healthcare.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-fine sterile needles into particular points of the body. The intention of this procedure is to balance the bodies qi (internal life-force/energy) within the channels. The ancient theory of yin and yang is used to diagnose any internal imbalances, the practitioner will take a full consultation along with a pulse and tongue examination to determine the possible cause of the presenting condition. Once the needles have been inserted into the chosen points they are retained for 20 minutes, the introduction of needle to skin is not painful but can feel a little energetic at times for a split second. Many patients find acupuncture an extremely relaxing experience.
Acupuncture can help with an array of conditions, thankfully it has been proven that the insertion of the needles stimulates sensory nerves within our bodies, thus producing natural pain relieving endorphins. A course of 10 weekly sessions is highly recommended to ensure maximum benefits.
Acupuncture can help with Pain, Sciatica, Arthritis, Lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, IBS, digestive issues, Insomnia, Allergies(hay fever), women's health issues (menopause, menstruation issues), Anxiety/depression and smoking cessation.
Gua Sha translates as 'press-stroke' creating small petechiae (red dots) on the skins surface. This ancient technique including cupping therapy is particularly effective for musculoskeletal pain and stiffness, muscle and tendon injuries, sports related injuries, increases mobility (trigger point and fascial release) , migraines and headaches, digestive disorders, asthma, colds, allergies, hay fever, bronchitis and lung congestion.
A detailed consultation will be taken before the treatment, which will include a pulse and tongue examination, medical history and presenting symptoms discussion. This whole process will take an 1 hour.
A short discussion on your previous weeks experience to treatment (changes in symptoms etc), pulse and tongue examination then treatment. This process will take 45 minutes.
During treatment I may decide to use extra therapy along side acupuncture, this will enhance the efficacy of the procedure. This may include Gua Sha, cupping therapy, Moxa, massage, trigger point or myofascial release techniques.
